About Uncommon Life

The uncommon life is knowing that you only have one life to live and making the choice to make it the best one possible. It’s living your own greatest adventure and striving to be the best you. It’s chasing your dreams and not living life by default.

The mission of Uncommon Life is to equip every person with the mindset and strategies to live an extraordinary life.

How It All Started

It all started with a desire to be more.

Faced with self-doubt, anxiety, not living up to his own expectations, fear, and the opinions of others, Jason didn’t feel fulfilled. When he moved down to Savannah in 2013 for a career change, Jason had the opportunity to start life over. He went to work addressing the issues he could feel were holding him back, including confidence, mindset, habits, and achieving goals. He dug into hundreds of books, podcasts, sermons, and seminars. As an engineer, he collected the information he consumed, working to clarify and logically organize it, and in the process developed a set of strategies to become the best version of himself. He became fascinated with the human brain and its complexity, in awe of how the brain can enable and disable our dreams.

Along his journey, Jason connected with others experiencing similar struggles. He shared his strategies and story with them, and watched as they changed their lives as well. It didn’t take long for Jason to feel called to serving others in this way; he felt fulfilled helping people come to life and overcome the obstacles holding them back.

Jason started feeling a pull to make this into more than just off-hand comments to friends when they needed advice; he wanted to make this all available to everyone and to pursue a more widespread distribution of the ideas and techniques that had changed his life. He felt a calling to help people grow and become the best versions of themselves. He started working towards this vision, assembling pieces of it.

In late 2019, Jason gave a presentation on Neuroplasticity as part of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics – Savannah Section Tech Talks series. Unsure how it would be received, Jason was overwhelmed by the reaction of coworkers and peers who were engaged and interested in learning more. It felt like validation that this information should be shared. And that’s where it started.

Here and Now

Uncommon Life was born from Jason’s mission, forming in July 2020 and officially opened its doors in August 2021. We’re grateful that you’re joining us as we grow, and we are looking forward to you growing along with us!

Jason McDowell

Founder, CEO, and Coach

An entrepreneur, an adventure seeker, an Aerospace Engineer, a pilot, a Wisconsinite (therefore, a cheese connoisseur and a Badger), a Boilermaker, and a National Park enthusiast. Jason grew up in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin and worked at a Piggly Wiggly throughout high school. He then attended The University of Wisconsin – Madison and Purdue University for Aerospace Engineering before working as a Stability and Control Engineer at a business aviation company for over ten years.

Along this journey, Jason moved down to Savannah in 2013 and experienced immense personal growth over the course of several years with the strategies he’s planning to share through Uncommon Life. After feeling the call to start his own personal development company for years, he decided it was time to finally do it in July 2020, and Uncommon Life was born! Jason left his aerospace engineering job in August of 2021 to pursue his entrepreneurial dream full time. He currently is building up the pieces of Uncommon Life to reach as many people as possible.

Jason loves the outdoors, National Parks, weekend adventures, his faith, sunset Cessna flights, and constantly working to beat his 5K time. Jason hopes that Uncommon Life will help everyone grow to become the best version of themselves.

Alessandra Carno, Creative Content Director

An amateur adventurer, an Aerospace Engineer, a weekend volunteer, a corny-joke teller, and a lover of plants. Alessandra grew up in Syracuse, NY and was way too involved in high school (we’re talking cheerleading captain, math teamer, editor of the literary magazine, Engineering Club nerd, weekly Writer’s Guild attendee, and tutor). She graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and currently works as an engineer at a business aviation company.

Alessandra loves writing and spending time in creative spaces. Since meeting Jason, she’s grown in faith, focus, staying consistent with goals, and maintaining an abundance mindset. She firmly believes in personal development and working to become the best version of yourself, and she’s excited to contribute all-things-creative to the company!

Alessandra’s a leg-day enthusiast, a clumsy hiker, a girl who gets way too excited about Christmas cookies, and an adamant believer that engineering needs more females. She’s hoping Uncommon Life gives people the opportunity to grow like she did when she met Jason.
